Love it or leave it, AGR

Editors, Asheville Global Report,

I read your paper from cover to cover.  Good thing you live in America where you are allowed to have a paper filled with such agenda based content. Keep up the good work. If your “dream” sees its way through, your paper and freedom will be pulled from under you.

We will be at war with Iraq, deal with it. The liberation of its people will be the best thing Iraq has had in decades. They have a dictator that has killed his own people. Open your blind eyes. You probably take the stance of France, Germany, and Russia. Those little nations that think they still have a place in the modern world.  Ever looked at France or Russia’s involvement with Iraq financially? Do some homework, you will find out why France and Russia will profit from a war NOT starting. Take a look at the radical Islam problem in France. Another point you should investigate, but will not. Ask any Iraqi American what they think of the war. You will find most of them welcome the overthrow of Saddam. You will probably be one of those human Shield folks that will be shot in the back by the Iraqi army.

Look at the women in Afghanistan that are now allowed to live a normal life. Yea, we’re a big bad nation alright... Radical Islam uses women for sex toys and kill [sic] them without accountability. If you do not like it here, why do you stay? That is what I always wonder about. Just leave the country and go to one of these countries you claim is so much better. Maybe your whole female staff should go there and see what it is like to be a women [sic] there. They can write an article on it each week. Then they can write about how good it is now that the USA has liberated another thankless region. Remember the music in the streets that played when Afghanistan was liberated and free? 10 dollars says you do not.

The article in your paper about this person wanting a full account of the USA’s weapons. I hope he enjoys his freedom. People like him, willing to bend over, will be the fall of this country. We are a free nation. How did we get there? How do we stay there? By having alot of weapons. Freedom is a funny thing. People have it and bitch. Go to another country and live. You will want to come back to the USA. I can assure you. Tell me our government has used its weapons against Americans (other than the use of force by Janet Reno).  Oh yea, you like her didn’t you? Good thing for Florida she will not run again.

I am an independent and do not claim any affiliation with a political party. But your paper is a scary example about how uninformed people are out there. I will continue to read and continue to write you. Hope this does not bring across hard feelings. Remember, in a free country, I can have an opinion too. God Bless America. Oh, do you use that word? God? Sorry if I offended you.

Have a good weekend. Try to be a patriot this weekend rather than a socialist.

War is state-sanctioned terrorism

Editors, Asheville Global Report,

Si-yo (hello) to my good friends in Asheville and at the AGR. You should have my $50 money order by now.  Your excellent news coverage has kept me abreast of many important national/international events as I have served out jail-probation time down here in St. Augustine, FL. ( I was originally charged with a felony/and then a misdemeanor -- for sprinkling blood on the base of the Ponce de Leon statue during a demonstration against Ponce -- and the other murdering Conquistadors -- by American Indians and supporters during "Columbus-Day" back in  October 2000. I received a right-wing "hanging judge" who threw the book at me demanding excessive fines/penalties for my alleged "criminal acts." A circuit court of appeals ruled in my favor recently on several counts. I paid NO money to GLORIFY GENOCIDE (as demanded) and I should be FREE soon.)

President Bush needs a war with Iraq to distract the American people from focusing on his disastrous DOMESTIC POLICY (unemployment soaring, $157 billion deficit -- and rising, stock market plunge, racism/civil rights problems, environmental degradation, etc.)

WAR is merely state-sanctioned TERRORISM. Martin Luther King Jr. stated in 1967, during the Vietnam War, “My government is the world's leading purveyor of violence.” It's past time for this violence to stop. America should be a leader in Diplomacy -- not seen by many US citizens (and that figure is growing) as well as by much of the rest of the world as a gunslinging, shoot-from-the-hip type dominating/aggressive/violent Nation. American Indians remember this approach all-too-well -- Sand Creek Massacre (1864), Wounded Knee (1890), Trail of Tears (1838-9)!!

If war comes young American-Indian, African-American, and other minority group members will die in grossly disproportionate numbers to their demographic proportion -- due to a lack of economic opportunity (other than the military) in these communities. Many lower income whites will be on the front lines also -- largely compelled by the same economic forces.

If they perish they will die NOT for “freedom and democracy” but in a bloody war for oil and domination of a region by our large, multinational corporations (or Arab proxies set up to serve their interests)."

Many of those who return home will undoubtedly develop health problems related to contamination/exposure on the battlefield. Some 40% of Gulf War Veterans have health problems related to the 1991 war (33% of the total of 200,000 Gulf War Vets have filed claims for medical problems -- through April 2002).  Many were contaminated from thousands of rounds of US depleted uranium (DU) munitions that were left littering the battlefield. They are excreting uranium 238 (DU) in their urine and semen according to Dr. Helen Caldicott, current president of the Nuclear Policy Research Institute.

"Science has absolutely shown that the illnesses Gulf War veterans face are not as a result of the stressors of war but as a result of exposures, unapproved vaccines, unapproved pills, and a myriad of other things that have not yet been researched," said Steve Robinson, executive director of the National Gulf War Resource Center in Washington. The group Vietnam Veterans Against the War opposes war with Iraq and recently stated: ... " We have fought for Peace, Decent Benefits for all Vets, and Social Justice for the last 35 years.... Now Bush II wants to send our sons and daughters to fight in Iraq. He will ignore the Congress, and the UN if he doesn't get his way. He wants War and an Empire.... Homelessness and despair face millions of vets of past wars, while this government merrily goes off on another."

Sgi (Thanks), and hope to see ya'll later this year.
